Convention Arrival Trips - Friday, May 16th
Full-day Trips Arriving at Venue by 5:00 p.m.
- A1 - Hotchkiss to Cañon City. Meet at 6:30 a.m., at Coaltrain Coffee House (328 W. Bridge St. 970-872-5282); travel via Crawford Res. (Delta), Gould Res. (Montrose), Blue Mesa Res., Neversink Trail, Gunnison cemetery (Gunnison), Monarch Pass (Gunnison/Chaffee), Salida area (Chaffee), and Tunnel Drive (Fremont).
- A2 - Chatfield Res. to Cañon City. Meet at 6:30 a.m. at the Swim Beach parking lot. Travel via Sedalia (Jefferson), Hayman Burn (Douglas), Manitou Lake, Trout Creek, Victor (Teller), and Phantom Canyon (Teller/Fremont).
- A3 - *Fountain Creek Regional Park to Cañon City. Meet at 7:00 a.m. at the Nature Center parking lot. Travel via Chico Basin Ranch (El Paso, Pueblo), Vineland, Huerfano Res. (Pueblo), Hwy. 120, and Florence (Fremont). Extra $10 fee per person to visit Chico. No exceptions.
Convention Trips - Friday, May 16th
Full-day Trips Returning by 5:00 p.m.
- C1 - *Chico Basin Ranch. Departing at 5:45 a.m., visiting one of Colorado’s premier migrant traps. Targets include Scaled Quail, Mountain Plover, Cassin’s Sparrow and a host of migrants. Extra $10 fee per person to visit Chico. No exceptions.
- C2 - South Park. Departing at 6:00 a.m., visiting Guffey, Elevenmile Res., Spinney Mountain Res., Antero Res. Targets include Waterbirds and Mountain Plover.
- C3 - Upper Arkansas River. Departing at 6:05 a.m., visiting Tunnel Drive (canyon birds) and the Salida area (Sands Lake, Franz Lake, and cemetery, 240 Road). Targets include various breeding species, including Black-chinned Hummingbird, Black Phoebe, Canyon Wren, American Dipper, Rufous-crowned Sparrow, and Eastern Meadowlark.
- C4 - Wet Mountains and Pueblo County. Departing at 6:10 a.m., visiting San Isabel, Rye Mountain Park, Colorado City, Burnt Mill Bridge, and Pueblo Mountain Park. Targets include a wide variety of breeding birds, including Band-tailed Pigeon, Greater Roadrunner, all three phoebes, Ovenbird, Cassin’s Finch, and Evening Grosbeak.
- C5 - Custer County Loop. Departing at 6:15 a.m., visiting Wetmore (migrants, low-elevation breeders), San Isabel (high-elevation breeders), Westcliffe (town birds), and DeWeese Res. (waterbirds, open-country birds). Targets include waterbirds, breeding birds and migrants.
- C6 - Fremont County. Departing at 6:20 a.m., visiting Temple Canyon, Tunnel Drive, Cañon City Riverwalk, Florence, Florence Mountain Park, Brush Hollow Res., and other areas. Targets include a variety of breeding birds, including White-throated Swift, Pinyon Jay, Juniper Titmouse, Pygmy Nuthatch, Carolina Wren, Hooded Warbler, Rufous-crowned Sparrow, and Red Crossbill.
- N1 - Nocturnal Trip. Departing 8:30 p.m., targeting Barn Owl, Flammulated Owl, Northern Pygmy-Owl, Long-eared Owl, Northern Saw-whet Owl, and Common Poorwill.

- C9 - Phantom Canyon and Teller County. Departing at 6:00 a.m., visiting Phantom Canyon, Skagway Res., Victor, Bison Res., and Wrights Res. Targets include various breeding and migrant species, including Band-tailed Pigeon, Dusky and Cordilleran flycatchers, Clark’s Nutcracker, and Pine Grosbeak.

- C8 - Salida area (see C3, omitting Tunnel Drive stop). Departing at 5:50 a.m.
- C10 - Breeding Bird Atlas Trip. Departing at 6:05 a.m., visiting an unassigned block nearby.
- C11 - Custer County Loop (see C5). Departing at 6:10 a.m.
- C12 - Wet Mountains (see C4, omitting low-elevation Pueblo Co. sites). Departing at 6:15 a.m.
- C13 - Fremont County #1 (see C6). Departing at 6:20 a.m., visiting Tunnel Drive, Temple Canyon, Oak Creek Grade, and the Riverwalk.
- C14 - Fremont County #2 (see C6). Departing at 6:25 a.m., visiting Brush Hollow Res., Florence area, and Florence Mountain Park.
- C15 - Having-a-lie-in trip. Departing at 8:30 a.m., visiting sites in and near Cañon City.
- C16 - *Photo trip with Richard Crossley and Bill Schmoker. Departing 7:00 a.m. This is a birding trip that will provide time for those that want to take photographs. There will be opportunities for help with both digital SLR and digiscoping techniques. $10.00 additional fee.

- C17 - South Park (see C2). Departing at 5:45 a.m., good for departures to northeast and northwest.
- C18 - Upper Arkansas River (see C3). Departing at 5:50 a.m., good for departures to northeast and northwest.
- C19 - San Luis Valley. Departing at 5:55 a.m., visiting Saguache, Alamosa and Monte Vista NWRs, Home Lake, and other sites. Good for departures to southwest. Targets include waterbirds, both breeders and migrants, and migrant landbirds.
- C20 - Phantom Canyon and Teller County (see C9). Departing at 6:00 a.m., good for departures to north and northeast.
- C21 - Wet Mountains and Pueblo County (see C4). Departing at 6:05 a.m.
- C22 - Custer County Loop (see C5). Departing at 6:10 a.m.
